I ascribe to the Law of Attraction … the simple notion that what you put out is what you get back. Put out love, receive love. For those who ascribe to religious tenets, you could also call it the Golden Rule.

I am a big fan of Neil deGrasse Tyson. His interest in the universe and his devotion to its study inspires me greatly, but it is his humanness that I find most compelling. One of my favorite quotes of his is “you don’t have to be a rocket scientist to know that kindness is a virtue.” I also love his sense of humor, specifically his morbidly funny explanation of what happens to a human being should they fall into a Black Hole. But this quote holds the most water for me … it is: “We are part of this universe; we are in this universe, but perhaps more important than both of those facts, is that the universe is in us.”

I have always believed we are stardust. That statement probably brings to mind for you the lyric from Joni Mitchell’s 70’s anthem, “Woodstock”, but I have always felt since I was a child I was connected to the universe in a profound way.   I had one fear however that kept me awake at night … it was not the monster under the bed, or the boogey man in the closet … it was the idea of nothing, of there being no universe, no planets, no solar system … just ‘nothing’. The thought of nothing, just a great big void, used to scare the bejesus out of me! But as soon as I envisioned the planets, and the stars, and solar system, and brought my mind back to what I knew to be ‘out there’, my sense of well-being would return and I would finally drift off to sleep.

My mother used to tell her children that we were “born from love.” I have always considered myself a very lucky person to have been raised in a household full of such unconditional love, as it gave me the confidence to try things without fear of failure, knowing my parents always “had my back”.   My parents passed long ago. Not having them in my adult life anymore was sobering as it meant there was no one to run home to should I fail. No longer was there anyone who “had my back.   Then I read The Law of Attraction. As I read, it was everything I already knew, everything I had already sensed, lying in bed at night as a young girl, constantly wondering about the universe and my place in it.

Everything is vibration. Nothing is solid. What we see and hear is an interpretation of energy. I am certainly no Quantum Physicist, but much of what I believe is based on this particular science … that the world is a very fluid place and that my own place in it is created by my collective thoughts. When I start to feel lack, or lose self confidence, I remind myself that my body is made up of tissues and organs, that those tissues and organs are made of cells, that those cells are made of molecules, that those molecules are made of atoms, that those atoms are sub-atomic particles, and that subatomic particles are energy! For me, I visualize energy as stardust … beautiful glistening, glittery stardust! So, not only does the universe have my back, it IS my back.
